Outer Banks – day 4

Elizabeth IIToday the rains kept us from the beach, either rain from a front that had moved in, or the early bands from tropical storm Ernesto.  We went back to Roanoke Island, and went to the festival park, where they have a recreated village settlement and the Elizabeth II, an accurate reproduction of the kind of ships they sailed here from England.

By evening, it was raining pretty steady and tornado warnings were starting to appear in southern North Carolina.  By the time we went to bed it was raining non stop, and several times in the middle of the night we were awakened by the pouring rain and gusting wind.
